The Smiths
In the heart of Cornwall, our family of five has turned life into one big adventure playground. My husband and I, along with our three ‘spirited’ children, have made Hayle and Gwithian our basecamp for fun, laughter, and a bit of chaos.
Surfing is our family’s favourite way to wake up. Picture this: my husband and I trying to look cool on our boards while the kids effortlessly ride the waves, making us look like total amateurs. The beach echoes with our laughter and the occasional “wipeout!” shout.
Gwithian’s windswept beaches are perfect for windsurfing and kitesurfing. I take the older kids out, their kites soaring high. Meanwhile, my husbands on the shore, trying to untangle himself from a kite string, much to the kids’ amusement.

For a more tranquil adventure, we dive into wild swimming in the hidden coves and mermaid pools around Cornwalls North coast. The crystal-clear waters are inviting, and there’s something magical about swimming in the open sea. Our youngest loves these moments, splashing around and pretending to be a mermaid, while we try to keep up with her boundless energy.
Biking is another passion we share. The scenic trails on the coastal path and in Tehidy woods offer breathtaking views and a chance to explore the countryside. Whether it’s a leisurely ride along the coast or a challenging trail through the woods, biking brings us closer to nature and each other. Plus, it’s always fun to see who can pedal the fastest without crashing!
When we’re lucky enough to find someone willing (or mad enough) to take on our three kids – we do enjoy the odd evening away from them!!! We’re lucky with the range of pubs, restaurants and bars on our doorstep, and during the summer months there’s always pop up events.
We invite you to join us in Cornwall and experience the same joy and adventure. Our Airbnbs in Hayle and Gwithian are the perfect base for your Cornish getaway. Come and create your own stories of fun, laughter, and a bit of mud with us.
