First things first, what actually is wild swimming?
It may sound obvious but – it is literally swimming in water outdoors! Wether your preference be salt or fresh water, it’s still wild swimming. You can leave your bathers on, without is classed as ‘skinny dipping’ which although may seem even wilder, could land you in a spot of bother – think indecent exposure! But, hey, it always seems like a good idea after a couple of Cornish Rattlers eh?!

There is no better way to awaken your senses than jumping into cold water!
One of the things I love most about our local beach at Hayle (also known as St.Ives Bay) is just how clear the sea always seems to be, you can always see little fish darting around and most times you visit the beach there is at least one seal popping up to say hi! I was even lucky enough to swim with a dolphin a couple of years ago. It sounds idyllic but… it’s actually quite scary! Seeing an 8ft long dark object coming towards you at lightning speed, it’s ok when you realise it’s just flipper. Don’t let that put you off!
In the UK it’s more of a solitary sport, you will however find clubs if you prefer to go out in force. You’ll find some great hints and tips here (The Outdoor Swimming Society).
It is very peaceful and is a great way to wind down, get some peace and quiet and to really get in touch with nature.
